Qnamic supports extension of Lötschberg-axis The cantons Berne and Wallis are demanding the extension of the Lötschberg-axis which connects Frutigen and Visp through a tunnel. The tunnel would be beneficial for the Lötschberg as well as the Gotthard. Qnamic, as a software supplier focused solely on the railway industry, supports the Swiss railways and their future sustainability. The ?Lötschberg Committee? (www.loetschberg-komitee.ch) is an organisation that is actively pursuing the demand for the construction: The extended tunnel will improve the quality and performance of the axis Wisenberg-Bern-Lötschberg-Simplon. The construction is vital for national and international railway traffic, as the Lötschberg-axis will soon meet its capacity limits: Since the year 2000, cargo traffic has doubled and passenger traffic has significantly exceeded the planned values. An extension of the largely single-track Tunnel would allow for heightened capacity and more timetable stability. IC Traffic Berne-Wallis would be possible in a 30 minute frequency, without affecting the constantly growing amount of cargo traffic. A further goal is the satisfaction of the local population through increased sub-urban railway and regional traffic, especially in the Berne-Thun region. |
