RailOpt includes adherence to work-time rules for SOB Since 2005, the Swiss Südostbahn (SOB) is working with Qnamic’s software RailOpt®. Only recently, SOB has integrated all work-time rules into RailOpt. Now it is not only possible to detect violations of work-time rules (for example a violation of the minimum time for a break), but also to display analysis graphically. With the integrated work-time rules in RailOpt, SOB’s planners have an efficient tool which advises them about arising problems in time. After the liberalisation of the railway market, the subject of work-time rules gained in importance and also SOB’s planners have been thoroughly trained on this matter. However, due to the complexity of the rules and the great many affected employees, it has been impossible so far to calculate all rules continuously for every day. Therefore, the risk of an unconscious breach of a rule could never be avoided. Through the extension of RailOpt, SOB now has an ideal solution which informs their planners about critical limits of work-time rules after only a few mouse-clicks. And this already in the planning process. I am convinced that with the new addition to RailOpt, SOB is able to improve the quality of their planning even more.
