BLS Inc. smoothly manages EURO 08-rush in Berne The EURO 08 is over – at least for Switzerland’s capital Berne. There, the European champions are already nominated: the fans of the Dutch football team. 110.000 people came to Berne to watch the last match in the Stade de Suisse or in the local fan zones, 60.000 specially travelled from the Netherlands to Berne for this very event. BLS Inc. had to face the challenge of bringing the scores of fans dressed in orange to their desired destinations in and around Berne. As the operator of Berne’s suburban railway system, BLS Inc. expanded the daily operation time by two hours. With 664 additional trains, each with around 300 seats, BLS Inc. handled the exceptional circumstances with grandeur. The success is to be found in BLS Inc.’s suitable preparation, but also in the efficient and transparent planning of the transit with their software RailOpt® by Qnamic Inc. Otto Kehrli, RailOpt system administrator at BLS Inc., reflects after the matches in Berne: „That everything went so smoothly and that no service was forgotten in such a linked operation, proves once more how efficient the modular design of RailOpt is.
