BLS Inc. generates own order document for its drivers

Starting with the 2009 timetable period, the Swiss BLS Inc. will prepare order documents for their drivers internally. In cooperation with the BLS Inc., the software provider Qnamic Inc. developed a solution in a record time of only nine months. The software will be productive starting on the day of the timetable change on the 14th December 2008, and is also interesting for other train operating companies.

It was necessary for BLS Inc. to create its own driver order documents, so the company created a solution in cooperation with the software company Qnamic Inc. This project between BLS Inc. and Qnamic Inc. is an expansion of the planning and dispatching software RailOpt, which BLS Inc. is already using to plan and produce their personnel and rolling stock.

The first project phase has been completed just in time for the timetable change on 14th December 2008, and the various papers for drivers have been combined into a single one. The shift orders and run sequences, based on the planning done with RailOpt, and the necessary route information from SBB Infrastructure’s SYFA, are generated daily in print format, which the drivers can access via internet or intranet.

The structure of the run sequence corresponds to route tables (with matching net nodes and row spacing), so that both can be displayed next to one another, making the information the driver requires visible immediately. The topology of the route tables is modelled in a database, with which for example low speed rails and extra instructions can be accessed according to the run sequence.

In the future, the run sequences and route tables are to be made available electronically as pdf-documents, so that drivers can access those using mobile devices. It is also planned to make an RADN-Database access available to the BLS Inc.
