Project success between Swiss Software Company and Swedish Train Operation Company The Swiss Qnamic Inc. implemented its software planning solution RailOpt at the Swedish train operation company SJ in the record time of only 18 months. Since this February, SJ is planning more than 2000 of their train personnel with RailOpt. For the state company SJ, this is one more step towards profitability, efficiency and transparency. Since February, the Swedish train operation company SJ is planning their train personnel as well as the entire rolling stock with the Swiss company Qnamic Inc.’s software RailOpt. In a record time of only 18 months, Qnamic Inc. has implemented its Intelligent Resource Management software solution at SJ. A roll-out of planning software in the railway industry usually presents a duration between five and ten years. Qnamic Inc. CEO Dirk Pfeiffer is proud of the achievement and says: „The accomplishment of a project that size in such a short time not only requires a reliable product, but also a professional project organisation on both sides. From development start to pilot implementation in one year and full implementation in two years is a formidable joint achievement. SJ now has an excellent tool for production planning in place and we look forward to start utilizing its full potential.” Every day, close to 100,000 people travel on SJ trains to more than 350 destinations all over Sweden. In 2001 the former Swedish rail authority was split in different parts, one being SJ Since then, the former state train operation company had to adjust its organisational structure and processes to increase productivity. The planning of train personnel and rolling stock lent itself to be optimised with a software tool. Previously, the resource planning was based on paperwork. Unique Swiss software solution for resource planning After an extensive evaluation process of several software providers world-wide, SJ decided to implement the resource planning software of the Swiss Qnamic Inc. RailOpt is a unique planning and production system which enables the user to plan activities for personnel and rolling stock simultaneously. Only with this capacity can a system immediately display location or capacity conflicts between vehicles and personnel. Furthermore, RailOpt uses configurable rule sets and policies to embed all company and state laws and regulations within the system. In addition, RailOpt tracks all activities along the production chain, making actual data available for controlling systems. These offer the necessary information for strategic decisions.
